Binance Dust: How to Convert Small Balances to BNB
Coin remainders below the minimum order size can't be sold — that's 'dust'. Binance's tool that converts these balances into BNB, step by step, and what to verify before confirming.
You sold almost all of a coin, but a remainder stayed behind — R$ 0.37 of ADA, 0.0004 of some ticker you don't even remember buying. You try to sell: "amount below minimum". These scraps have a name: dust — and Binance has a specific tool for dealing with them.
Why dust exists
Every trading pair has a minimum order size (a few dollars/reais; the exact value shows on the order screen). Balances below it can't be sold on the spot market — they sit stuck in the wallet. Dust comes from:
- Sales that don't close the exact quantity (rounding remainders).
- Fees debited in the traded asset (less common for those paying fees with BNB).
- Tiny test purchases you abandoned.
It's not lost money — just below the market's granularity.
The solution: convert dust to BNB
Binance offers conversion of small balances into BNB, precisely because BNB is the house utility token (it pays fees at a discount):
- Open the Spot wallet in the app or site.
- Look for "Convert small balances to BNB" (on the site it usually appears as a button/icon in the wallet overview; the exact name and place shift between versions — if you can't find it, search "convert small balances" in the app's help).
- The tool lists eligible assets below the threshold. Tick the ones to convert.
- Confirm. The whole set becomes a single BNB balance.
Done: clean wallet, and the proceeds even go toward paying fees at a 25% discount.
What to check before confirming
- There is a conversion fee embedded in the operation (the value/percentage shows on the confirmation screen). For genuine dust, paying it almost always beats leaving dead value around.
- Limited frequency: the tool usually enforces a minimum interval between uses (e.g. once per so many hours — the screen tells you). Not a problem: dust isn't in a hurry.
- Not every asset is eligible all the time — the list varies. What's missing today may appear later.
- Don't confuse it with selling genuinely small positions: if a balance is above the minimum order size, selling on spot with a limit order usually beats any conversion — the same cost logic as Convert vs spot.
Is it worth the effort?
Financially we're talking cents or a few reais — the conversion won't change your month. The real gain is operational hygiene: a wallet with dozens of micro-balances makes it harder to see your true position, check what matters, and keep clean records. Five minutes per quarter solves it.
Preventing new dust
- Sell using "100%"/"max" instead of typing quantities manually — the form computes the exact sellable amount.
- Pay fees with BNB (how to enable it): the fee comes out of the BNB balance instead of leaving a remainder in the traded asset.
- Avoid scattered micro test buys: to experiment, use small amounts in a single pair and close the whole position afterwards (the full test cycle is here).
Dust is the kind of detail nobody tells beginners and everyone discovers alone. Now you know: it's not stuck, it's not lost — you just press the right button once in a while.
